Holiday Rab - WELCOME Island Rab, Croatia

Welcome in Supetarska Draga, Rab - Croatia

RAB, PEARL OF ADRIA

We are happy to introduce Island Rab this way to you. This is small but beautiful island, island of nature, peaceful life and harmony. There is no industry whatsoever on the island, so the Rab islanders live predominatelly of tourism and want to keep it in such a manner as to preserve the environment. They are kind hosts and take great pride in their professions. Rab's tourist industry won many prizes as the best destination in its tourism past (more than 120 years of organised tourism) and Rab's cooks and bar-tenders have won many international prizes. Others are fishermen and peasants breeding sheeps, taking upon olive trees and doing gardening. During the past, many have left the island and found their luck elsewhere so they say that there is no place on Earth where an Rabljanin doen't live. Still, Rab is one of the very few islands on the Adriatic where population number doesn't decrease.

Today Rab is north adriatic HOLIDAY PARADISE with lavish vegetation, mild climate and clear blue sea, great place for holiday through out the year. Autmun or spring visits are ideal if you love biking, walking, meditation, nature or sightseeing.
Swimming season start beginning of May, ends in October. Rab gets really bussy in the summer months of July and August. This can be just the right place for you if you're looking for great summer time, clean sea, lots of beaches to go to, if you love to dive, fish, play tennis or jogg... or simply enjoy the crowds. Rab's night life evolves around many caffe bars and their terasses or beach parties. You can taste excellent cuisine in many excellent restaurants, take pleasure in classical music concerts, exhibitions or simply walk around centuries old town streets under the notable townbells of Rab.

Supetarska Draga

The fertile valley houses Supetarska Draga,as well as Mundanije. Gornja and Donja (Upper and Lower) Draga have spread round the Draga Bay. The people of the Dragas have also combined modern and traditional ways of living, and this is easily sensed in tourist industry. There are guests who come back to the same hosts year after year, while new arrivals are quick to become attached to the place and the people. Draga is also interesting to people who come in boats; they are not limited to mooring off the shore, but can stay briefly by one of the neighbouring islets, Maman, Srednjak or Sailovac.  Islets are attractive with their clean and protected sand beaches and bays, and rich undersea life around them is discovered to the sport fishermans.

Romanesque basilica of St. Peter

The Draga Bay is protected too; it is shallow and calm, and here many birds nest and over-winter. Once upon the time there were salt pans here, and in the Draga valley the Romanesque basilica of St. Peter was built in the eleventh century. Its beauty attracts the faithful and lovers of art alike. The same church bell tower, built in the early Romanesque style 1060th year, it is the oldest bell in Croatia babbit 1290th year.

 Mill on the sea

The mill (run by the strength of water from the shallow spring 2,5 meters above the sea) in  Supetarska Draga Gornja is one of the greatest monuments of common architecture in our region. It was reconstructed by the benedictins in the 11th century. The mill is the oldest stock society on the island of Rab.The owner shared stocks in proportion to days of use.It was reconstructed again in 1989. But it is not well presented in public.

Tunera

One of the most important fishing activities in Kvarner was tunny fishing. The first perch for tunny fishermen in Supetarska Draga was Build in 1900. and it was in function till 1955. This year it will be restored for younger generations to remember
